HackUC III is a 14 hour high school hackathon hosted by the Union County Vocational-Technical Schools, a district composed of five schools spanning a variety of subjects from engineering and computer science to health and performing arts. The event will be held on October 13th from 8am to 10pm at the Academy for Information Technology.

HackUC II was a twenty-four hour event held on June 22nd-June 23rd. It all started with a huge plan to encourage interest in technology in high schoolers and was a huge success thanks to both the mentors and the students. You can check out some of the projects at
HackUC III is coming up this year. We envision a successful hackathon in which new and old hackers can come together and develop their skills. Come make history with us!

What is a hackathon?
A hackathon is an event where people come together to try to create something in just one day. Web designers, developers, and business-oriented people with good ideas can all team up to produce a working demo. If you want to learn more about what hackathons are, check this out for more info!
How much does HackUC cost?
HackUC is completely free. We believe that anyone who wants to come into the STEM field should have the resources to do so. Come use your skills, learn new ones, and eat all the (free) food that you can!
What if I have no experience in coding?
Last year, most of the hackers at the hackathon did not know a single thing about programming. HackUC aims to teach everyone more about computer knowledge. Our goal is to have you leave with more knowledge than you came in with. You can be interested in anything, and still find a way to apply it to the hackathon by creating something about that interest. Most people don't realize, but hackathons are also about teamwork, fun, and free food!
How many people are in a team?
Teams can have up to four people. They can be made in advance or can be formed at the event.
What should I bring?
Bring all of these items on the day of the hackathon:
  • Laptop
  • School ID
  • Cell Phone
  • Chargers for your Devices (laptop, phone, tablet, etc.)
  • Release Waiver
  • Attitude to Learn
Other recommended items include:
  • Extension Cords
When/Where is this hackathon?
HackUC will be hosted by UCVTS, Scotch Plains NJ from 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM! There will be arrow signs posted around the campus directing you to the correct place, as well as schedules to make it easier to tell when you're supposed to be somewhere.
You can also follow this map.
What do I win?
HackUC offers everyone a lifetime supply of happy memories and friends made during this weekend. In addition to this amazing prize, a panel of judges will select the best projects that will win fantastic prizes. Other awards are given to those using specific technologies and APIs. Participants will also get tons of free swag from sponsoring companies!
Am I eligible to attend this hackathon?
Any high school student may attend. There is no application process, just sign up! If you're out of high school, feel free to come and mentor!
